Today, both men and women apply makeup every day. Many of these individuals spend hours of their time and hundreds of dollars in products to achieve the perfect look. Whether you are a makeup beginner or a long-time connoisseur, there is no denying that applying eyeliner is one of the most difficult aspects of this routine.
Fortunately, with the rise of cosmetic tattooing, eyeliner tattoos are a quick, easy and convenient way to achieve the ideal eyeliner look without the hassle of having to apply, remove and reapply your makeup every day.
As such many clients have undergone this revolutionary new beauty technique. Before you undergo eyeliner tattooing, here is what you need to know.
What Is An Eyeliner Tattoo?
Not unlike eyebrow tattooing, eyeliner tattooing is a form of semi-permanent makeup, where a special, low-frequency tattoo machine gently implant dots and lines of pigment into the skin.
The pigment used in this procedure is long-lasting, but will fade over time, requiring regular top-ups every few years. This allows clients to be able to change the look, colour and shape as their face and styles change.
Eyeliner tattooing works to accentuate the eye shape and colour, without the need for traditional makeup. It also works well to enhance the lashes as the pigment is implanted on the lash line to give the impression of thicker, darker lashes.
Eyeliner Tattooing Healing Process
While there is no downtime after receiving an eyeliner tattoo, the healing period lasts anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks.
Your eyeliner colour will be much darker immediately after treatment but will fade by 30% as it heals. As the area is tender and slightly swollen, the tattoo will also appear larger post-treatment. This is a normal part of the healing process and will soon heal.
As the tattoo heals, you will begin to notice that the tattoo looks darker. This is normal and is due to the pigment oxidisation and newly forming scabs. This can be remedied by applying a cool compress.
Three days post treatment, the scabs will begin flaking and falling off. This should be allowed to naturally shed. This is the time that the true colour will begin to show.
At 6 weeks your tattoo will have fully healed. It is at this time that beauty clinics recommend that a follow up appointment be made to make any colour and shape adjustments.
Eyeliner Tattoo Care Basics
Eyeliner aftercare will last for about 10 days, until the tattooed area has gone through the scabbing and the flaking phase. The basics of eyeliner tattoo care include:
- Avoid touching the area
- Do not wear any eye makeup
- Avoid sun exposure
- Avoid exposure to moisture (swimming, exercise, saunas)
